The Dining Room - Fade Away Blues
Ghettee loves hanging out on my shoulders, but the purpose of this shot is to show you the begining of our dining room refinishing. As you can see, the wall paper is off, the walls are in horrible shape!
With the removal of each strip of soggy-pasty-wallpaper new cracks and loose (lead based - no doubt) paint was exposed.
I was on a roll Friday night tearing and scraping my heart out when, my next-door-neighbor stopped by with a steamer - I think she could hear me cursing at the wallpaper and old paint. The steamer helped a little, it was still quite a pain in the ass.
I entered into this thinking it would be a nice weekend project, both Bill and I had Sat. and Sun off, so what they heck...
I soon realized that there was no way in hell we were going to get this done in two days with just the two of us working, so I asked Mike, Mark and Gary to come over for a scraping party. We offered free beer and organic-vegan food -- only Mike showed up.
Thanks Mikey! (by the way the 2ft square that you sanded and made oh-so-smooth has been textured over)
Ahh..the joys of using drywall mud to texture horribly uneven walls. Bill and I made compressed towel circles for our texturing implements. I had a 5 gallon bucket of mud from when we put in the door. I know what your thinking...the walls look great! --right? Well, they look a lot better than when we started.
We now have the room blocked off with sheets. The furniture is temporarily placed in the living room, and Bill is psyching himself up to scrape the ceiling... oh did I forget to mention the ceiling? It is worse than the walls!
But, soon we will be eating our vegan meals in a dining room with walls of 'Fade Away Blues' trimmed with 'Sandy Oasis' and you are all invited over to share in the glory.
Until next time - John and Bill
